• Chapter 86: Easter Sunday

    April 4, 2016
  • In 1991, Easter Sunday was on April 3rd. I thought it was cool that I found this Desert camo colored Easter egg and decided to borrow it for today's post.

I have no memory whatsoever of what I did on Easter Sunday in the gulf. It was easy to confuse one day with another because every day had the same routines. There was no weekend break. Sundays felt much like Thursdays, and Tuesdays felt like Fridays. However, I must have made a phone call to my grandmother some time late in the afternoon. She mentioned talking to me in the letter written on April 3, 1991 at 8:17 AM:

"Hello again. Only been about four hours since I was talking with you. Was good to hear your voice. I can hear you so clearly its like you were calling from across the street. I'm glad it won't be long until you will be that close."

"I will mail this letter and the one yesterday at the P.O. on Military [Military Parkway] on my way to church. I really was expecting your call this morning and had not been asleep long, in fact, probably was just dozing off; the last time I had looked at the clock it was around three. All my fault as I got in the Easter candy before going to bed around 10 PM. Very soon tho woke up at 11:00 with indigestion so I was up and down and laying awake and talking to God about you; nothing bad ha. Isn't it wonderful the good calm feeling you get living alone and talking to Him knowing He hears you and listens. I feel sorry for all those who won't accept Him."

"I called the Sheltons and talked with James this morning. They are Ok so I'll see them at church (if my eyes ever open), well they can see me I guess. So I need to get busy so I'll have plenty of time to make my bed and clean the room a little. Our other kids will be here around 1:00 PM (the Campos). So take care and hurry and get the ships loaded. I'm glad our count down is in weeks now. Love you much."

  • "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
    - Philippians 4:6-7
